Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Created January 3, 2002.

Why am I receiving a message indicating my Personal Identification Number (PIN) or Username (E-mail address) is incorrect?

If you have received the following message you have entered an incorrect PIN:
“Your username (E-mail) or PIN was incorrect. Please try again.”

There are several reasons why this may occur:

  1. You entered an incorrect PIN number in the PIN field or Username (E-mail) in the Username (E-mail) field;

  2. Your PIN and Username (E-mail) is case sensitive. All characters contained within a PIN are in lower case. Please ensure that you have not entered upper case characters. For example:
    • correct case usage (lower case) kb123fr; and
    • incorrect case usage (upper case) KB123Fr, Kb123Fr etc.

    Your Username (E-mail) is unique and case sensitive. You must re-enter your Username (E-mail) exactly as you entered it when you requested your PIN. For example:

    • The following Usernames (E-mail) are all different and represent different accounts: johnsmith@hotmail.com , JohnSmith@hotmail.com, and JOHNSMITH@hotmail.com.

    Tip: To be sure that you entered your PIN correctly copy and paste the PIN from the PIN email message. To copy and paste the PIN perform the following tasks:

    1. Highlight the PIN within the email message using your mouse or keyboard;
    2. To copy: press the Crtl key and the C key simultaneously or select Edit and Copy from your web browsers menu;
    3. Launch the CCGC Student Information System online registration application; and
    4. to paste: position the cursor in the PIN field and press the Crtl key and the V key simultaneously or select Edit and Copy from your web browsers menu.

  3. Depending on the font settings of your Internet Browser you may have problems distinguishing between the following characters:
    • The number one (1) and the lower case letter l (L); and
    • The number zero (0) and lower case letter o.

    Tip: To be sure that you entered your PIN correctly copy and paste the PIN from the PIN e-mail message. To copy and paste the PIN perform the following tasks:

    1. Highlight the PIN within the email message using your mouse or keyboard;
    2. To copy: press the Crtl key and the C key simultaneously or select Edit and Copy from your web browsers menu;
    3. Launch the CCGC Student Information System online registration application; and
    4. to paste: position the cursor in the PIN field and press the Crtl key and the V key simultaneously or select Edit and Copy from your web browsers menu.

When I try to view the Application Package or Maps unintelligible text is displayed on the screen. Why is this occurring?

The Application Package and Maps are in Adobe PDF file format. To view these files you must have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. To download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free select the link from the CCGC Student Information System online registration application or visit www.adobe.com. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader on you computer and try viewing the Application Package or Maps again.

If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer and are experiencing problems displaying the Application Package or Maps you may have an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is recommended that you download and install the latest release of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I have requested a PIN but I have not received an e-mail message containing the PIN. Why have I not received a PIN?

You should receive you PIN within 24 hours of making a request for a new PIN. It is the Candidate’s responsibility to ensure that they provide a valid e-mail address to a functioning e-mail account. The e-mail message containing the PIN will only be sent once.

The are several reasons why you may not have received a PIN:

  1. You may have entered your e-mail address incorrectly. For example:
    • Correct e-mail address: johnsmith@hotmail.com
    • Incorrect e-mail address: johnsmith@hotmail.dom

    If you feel that you may have submitted a email address containing an error it is recommended that you request another PIN using the valid e-mail address.

  2. The size of your email account may exceed the file size limit imposed by your Service Provider. If this occurs you will not receive the email message containing your PIN.

If the email account you used to request your original PIN exceeded the size limit it is recommended that you request a new PIN using a valid working email address.

Why do I receive the following message when I am trying to logon: “A database error has occurred”?

It is possible that the database is inaccessible because it is shut down for maintenance. Please try to logon at a later time.
