Chad Gaffield, Ph.D.

Educated at McGill and the University of Toronto, Dr. Gaffield taught at the University of Victoria before coming to the University of Ottawa, where he is Professor of History and founding Director of the Institute of Canadian Studies. His teaching and research focus on Canadian history during the 19th and early 20th centuries. His distinctions include Researcher of the Year in 1995 and Professor of the Year in 2002. Dr. Gaffield has been elected President of various associations, including the Humanities and Social Sciences Federation of Canada (1996–1998) and the Canadian Historical Association (2000–2001).

Mr. McKie is president of POLLARA Inc., the largest Canadian-owned marketing and public-opinion research company. His work in support of Canada’s largest media organizations and for the public sector has become standard methodology for audience research, and for developing strategic approaches to develop media-based products. His recent work on the new media and technology, such as the Internet, is widely purchased by those seeking expert advice on this exciting new opportunity. Before joining POLLARA, Mr. McKie worked for both the CBC and TVOntario.

Jean-Pierre Arvisais

A graduate of the University of Ottawa and of McGill University, Mr. Arvisais spent most of his career in communications and advertising with major Canadian and international agencies, including J. Walter Thompson, Cockfield Brown and BBDO Worldwide. He was elected President of PNMD Communications (BBDO Montreal) in 1981 and subsequently chairman of the board in 1991. He has been on the board of BBDO North America, one of the leading international advertising groups, as well as Vice-Chair of the Canadian Advertising Congress and President of the Association des agences de publicité du Québec.

Heather MacLellan

In 2000, after 25 years with Parks Canada, Ms. MacLellan became Assistant Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage with the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. At Parks Canada, her many achievements included managing the field unit for Eastern Newfoundland and developing three new national historic sites. Ms. MacLellan also held the positions of Director of Marketing and Chief of Visitor Services with Parks Canada. Ms. MacLellan is responsible for a variety of arts and heritage agencies and programs, including the new cultural facility The Rooms, co-chairs the cultural component of the federal/provincial agreement and oversees the development of cultural policy for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Raj Nigam

Mr. Nigam has had a variety of experiences with music festivals and organizations and fundraising. The University of Alberta conferred his Bachelor of Music (1991), his Master of Music (1994), and he earned a Certificate in Arts Administration from Grant MacEwan College (1999). Mr. Nigam held the positions of Festival Manager for the Festival of the Worlds, the cultural component of the Eighth International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Athletics Championships, 2000–2002, and Executive Director of the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association, 2002–2003. In 2003, he also served as Director of Funds Development at the Alberta Lung Association. His involvement with the Francis Winspear Centre For Music began in 1999 as Production Coordinator, and most recently, as Programming Manager, for the production of the World at Winspear series.

Pauline Rafferty

Ms. Rafferty is Chief Executive Officer of the Royal British Columbia Museum, with extensive experience in financial management and marketing. An archaeology graduate, she has worked in many parts of the province. Pauline has held various high-level positions in government and managed several innovative and successful projects. She has been and is a member of several boards, including the Oak Bay Board of Variance, the Heritage Society, the University of Victoria Faculty of Business Advisory Board and others.

Kevin M. Shea

Mr. Shea is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario's Marketing Management program, and is currently principal of SheaChez Inc., a Communications Management firm. Previous management positions include President and CEO of Global Television Network, YTV Canada Inc., and Atlantis Communications Inc. He received the Marketer of the Year award from the Canadian Marketing Association (1993) and the Children's Broadcast Institute Award for Innovation in Children's Television (1990). He is Chairman of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters TV Board, and Honorary Chairman of Reach for the Rainbow's Crystal Ball (Award of Distinction 1997).

Henry Storgaard

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Storgaard was president of Storgaard and Associates (marketing, communications and sponsorship) and SA Design Inc. (advertising), two companies that he founded and managed. In 1998, GPC International Inc. acquired the companies and he became Vice President. Currently, he is the Senior Vice President and Managing Director of APCO Worldwide. Mr. Storgaard has an Honours degree in Environmental Science from the University of Waterloo and has served on several boards of directors, including Opera Lyra, the Canadian Tulip Festival, the American Marketing Association and the Canadian Organisation for Development and Education.
