National Capital Commission
Canada

The NCC is responsible for the approval of commemorative projects on all federal lands in Canada's Capital Region.

We do not initiate commemorations. What we will do is provide assistance and advice at all stages of the project, including:

  • consultation and confirmation of subject’s national significance
  • identification of available sites
  • development of design criteria
  • selection of an appropriate design
  • construction
  • unveiling
  • ongoing interpretation

All costs associated with the project management, development, construction, installation and ongoing maintenance and operation of a commemoration are the responsibility of the sponsoring organization. Depending on the scope, a commemoration project generally requires two to five years for development.

Under our policy, all commemorative proposals must be compatible with NCC-approved plans for the Capital region. They must also meet certain criteria.
