RESPONSE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE TO MARINE SAFETY RECOMMENDATION M04-04Mr. Charles H. Simpson Dear Mr. Simpson: I am writing further to the June 9, 2004 letter from my Special Assistant, Roch Charron, concerning recommendation TSB M04-04 of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada Investigation Report M02C0030 into the sinking of the Lady Duck in the Ottawa River in June 2002. M04-04 recommended that the National Search and Rescue Secretariat, in collaboration with local authorities and organizations, promote the establishment of a system to monitor distress calls and to co-ordinate search and rescue responses to vessel emergency situations on the Ottawa River between Ottawa and Carillon. The National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS) accepts and concurs with the recommendation as drafted in the report and will pursue meetings with the relevant authorities to implement it. The Executive Director NSS will inform the Transportation Safety Board of follow-up action. Once again, thank you for the report and all the hard work that it entailed. Yours sincerely, [Original letter signed by the Honourable David Pratt, P.C., M.P.] |
