HomeA number of federal agencies that, because of the nature of their operations, could not be located in an urban area, have been situated in the Greenbelt. These include the Ottawa International Airport, a National Defence training facility and research establishments of Natural Resources Canada and Agriculture Canada. The Greenbelt also houses one of the Rideau Canal lockstations, local institutions such as schools, community centres, churches, a hospital and a prison, as well as several recreational facilities operated by the City of Ottawa.
