OFFICE OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS NEWSLETTER
The Office of Consumer Affairs is launching an e-mail
newsletter for people in the know who want to know more. The
Office of Consumer Affairs' Newsletter aims to
provide voluntary and consumer organizations, as well as
consumer affairs professionals from academia and governments
with timely and relevant consumer affairs information.
Information in the Newsletter will assist them in
their efforts to be proactive, and effectively contribute in
policy decision-making in the consumer interest. The
Newsletter also serves to increase sharing of
information and networking within the consumer movement and
with the Office of Consumer Affairs.
CONSUMER TRENDS REPORT
The Consumer Trends Report, a research document from
the Office of Consumer Affairs, has a two fold purpose.
First, it provides a general overview of past and current
economic and marketplace trends of relevance to consumers.
Secondly, the Report points to research gaps and
opportunities for future work by the consumer affairs
community.
KEY SMALL BUSINESS FINANCING STATISTICS
Key Small Business Financing Statistics is a reference
document on the state of financing for Canadian small and
medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is part of a series of
research products prepared through the Small and Medium-sized
Enterprise Financing Data Initiative (SME FDI) -- a
partnership between Industry Canada, Statistics Canada and
the Department of Finance. This first version includes
information on a broad range of financing instruments (e.g.
debt, leasing, equity financing and venture capital etc.)
used by Canadian small and medium-sized businesses and
provides answers to several key questions related to their
financing.

KEY SMALL BUSINESS STATISTICS, JULY 2005
Key Small Business Statistics was launched in 2001 in
response to demands for more information on small businesses
and is produced semi-annually. It provides much sought after
information on small businesses in Canada. The latest version
includes information on the number of small businesses in
Canada; the number of employees that work for small
businesses; the number of self-employed persons and the
number of firms that enter and exit. New information has been
added on: The number of women entrepreneurs; The contribution
of small businesses to Canada 's exports; The
contribution of small businesses to employment creation by
growth firms.
HRDC-IC-SSHRC SKILLS RESEARCH INITIATIVE
Working Paper Series - The research is grouped into four
themes: Labour Market and Skills Implications of Population
Aging; Employer-Supported Training; Adjustments in Markets
for Skilled Workers; International Mobility of Skilled
Workers.
