1. Are you hiring people? The government has just been through a downsizing exercise.

Although the department has been downsized, jobs are still being filled in priority areas and we are doing some recruiting.

2. . Are there possible job opoortunities in these fields outside of the federal government?

Environment Canada is the largest single employer of meteorologists in Canada, although there is a growing private section which is also recruiting.

3. Where are the best opportunities?

It is not possible to say specifically where the best opportunities are. We will have a certain number of openings in most of the career areas during the year.

4. How can I find out about job opportunities?

Your best bet is to keep your eye on major national and regional newspapers, recruitment notice boards on campus, and the Internet sites listed on our page Looking for employment with us. That's where the opportunities will be advertised.

5. What are the educational requirements for most of your jobs?

We have many different occupations covering a wider variety of activities, with a broad range of disciplines and degree levels. We have graduates from community colleges and technological institutes, and people with bachelor's and master's and doctoral degrees in such disciplines as meteorology, physics, atmospheric chemistry, hydrology, computer science, physical geography and engineering. For specific information, check the section on Our Work in the atmospheric and hydrologic sciences.
