There are major research facilities in Victoria, Saskatoon, Burlington, Downsview, Dorval and the National Capital Region. The Canadian Meteorological Centre in Dorval houses a supercomputing facility. Components of research branches are colocated with a number of Canadian universities.

Weather forecast and warning services are provided on a continuous basis from offices in the following locations: Whitehorse, Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Ottawa, Dorval, Rimouski, Quebec City, Fredericton, Dartmouth, and Gander. Weather forecasters are also located at Canadian Forces bases across Canada to provide meteorological and oceanographic services for the military. The Canadian Ice Service Centre in Ottawa provides ice forecasts for the Canadian Coast Guard.

Environmental monitoring is carried out at sites across the country in both remote and settled areas, including two of the most northerly operational monitoring and research stations in Canada, at Eureka and Alert. Monitoring activities range from air and water quality, water quantity and wildlife conservation, to weather, climate and ozone.
