Working Level Forecaster

Client Service Results

Prepares weather forecasts, advisories and warnings, and climatological and environmental products for the general public, the media and specialized user groups. Provides technical and scientific advice relating to meteorological, climatological and environmental products or atmospheric issues.

Key Activities

Prepares
and delivers operational weather forecasts, warnings and other meteorological products.
Maintains
a weather watch to identify severe weather conditions and to ensure amendments are issued as required.
Responds
to inquiries from the general public, clients and other users on matters relating to weather forecasts or other meteorological, atmospheric and environmental issues. The work requires a good working knowledge and an appreciation of the users' requirements to respond to their need for meteorological information: e.g. pilots (aviation forecast), the media, forestry ministries (fire weather forecast), farmers (agricultural forecast), forestry, highways and transportation, government departments, universities and schools and the recreational boating community.
Identifies
clients' requirements that could potentially be provided on a commercial basis.
Participates
in the development and testing of new meteorological products, and the improvement of existing forecast procedures and techniques.
Participates
in and/or conducts scientific and meteorological studies in such areas as air quality, forestry, and climate prediction.
Participates
in program development projects as required.
Depending
on location, may be required to monitor and participate in the ongoing acquisition of meteorological data.
