Focus on Newfoundland and Labrador at
the "World of Solutions"

Newfoundland and Labrador Booth

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s exhibit at the “World of Solutions” showcases its climate change activity.

Courtney Blundon, Climate Change Program Coordinator from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, was interviewed on site by Canada:  Daily Highlights.

Question: What message is your Exhibit sending to Conference delegates and the general public?

Newfoundlanders and residents of Labrador are very concerned about the impact of climate change in their community.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to taking action on climate change.  In June, the province released its Climate Change Action Plan.  The plan outlines 40 initiatives that relate to education, transportation, energy efficiency, resource industries, municipalities, industry and the building sector.

Question: What do you want people to know about the impact of climate change in Newfoundlandand Labrador?

In some areas of Newfoundland, we have already observed more erosion along the coastline.  There is more risk of flooding and storm.

Question: What about adaptation?

We also focus on adaptation.  For example, through the Climate Change Education Centre we focus on increasing climate change awareness and encourage action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We have a range of partnership arrangements and programs to assist residents of Newfoundlander and Labrador to make the changes necessary to adopt more sustainable and climate friendly lifestyles.
