Renewable Energy Solutions

Round table discussionsA Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) conference on renewable energy and climate change, running in parallel with the UN Climate Change Conference, has attracted more than 160 participants from over 40 countries.  Participants were predominantly from Canadian and international NGOs, but also came from universities, government, and Aboriginal communities.

Lively discussions of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the Clean Development Mechanism (one of the mechanisms available under the Kyoto Protocol to assist countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions) took place over the two-day conference which wrapped up Friday, December 2, at the Holiday Inn Select, across the street from the Palais des Congres.

The conference outcomes, reached through consensus-based decision-making, focused on renewable energy and recommendations for improving the CDM.  The outcomes will be presented at a United Nations Climate Change Conference side event on December 3rd.
