Solutions to Climate Change

Carbon trading, financing, pricing and climate-friendly projects are all central issues in international climate change policy and programs.  That is why over the next three days the “World of Solutions” will focus on carbon and the issues around the emerging carbon market for greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Carbon Finance BoothCarbon Finance activities at the UN Climate Change Conference are varied and consist of:

  • Carbon Finance Exhibits:  Private sector exhibits will showcase a range of climate change mitigation solutions.  Some will feature specialized services related to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) projects; others will provide an opportunity for buyers, sellers, regulators and other stakeholders to walk, talk and view the latest trends of the carbon market and sustainable development in action.
  • Carbon Finance Day:  This one-day Conference is being organized by the International Emissions Trading Association and the World Bank.  It is designed to focus on emissions trading and pricing, the state of the carbon market, and many of the issues associated with the CDM and JI mechanisms. Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew is to give the morning’s keynote address.  Afternoon sessions will focus on lessons learned, experience gain, journalist training, the European Union trading system and pricing, as well as emerging U.S. interest in creating greenhouse gas markets. (More Information on exhibits or the Conference, www.ieta.org or www.carbonfinance.org)
  • International Carbon Markets Matching Forum – A two-day practical Forum for Canadian companies working in the environmental and climate change areas to meet one-on-one with international proponents of CDM and JI projects.  It is designed to help match project developers with project investors and credit buyers.
