Standing Committee

• consists of regional representatives, the number of which depends on the number of Parties in the region
• directs the work and the administration of the Convention during the time between the meetings of the Conference of the Parties (COP).
• provides general policy and operational guidelines to the CITES Secretariat concerning the implementation of the Convention
• provides coordination and advice to the other committees as required
• reports directly to the COP
