"22 Species of Birds at Risk in Québec!"
Recently, a group of specialists from the Association québécoise des groupes d'ornithologues (a Québec association of birdwatching clubs commonly known as the AQGO), the Société de la faune
et des parcs du Québec (Québec wildlife and parks corporation) and the Canadian Wildlife Service reviewed the situation of all bird species in Québec. This led to the creation of a new list of species considered to
be at risk in the province.
Among the species listed, 14 are considered to be at risk Canada-wide1 Nine others are considered to be at risk in Québec, although their situation is less critical on a countrywide scale.
This site provides fact sheets on the 22 bird species at risk, which contain updated information on the situation of each species. Fact sheets are also included on three extinct
species and two species considered to be extirpated from Québec.
1 The Eskimo Curlew is listed as extirpated in Québec, although it is still on the list of endangered species in Canada.
