Environmental Protection Branch - Ontario Region

Environmental Protection Branch delivers an extensive range of national programs within Ontario Region with particular focus on the Great Lakes as a 'flagship' Regional program.

Priority issues include:

  • work toward virtual elimination of persistent and bioaccumulative toxic substances
  • promote pollution prevention ethic with all sectors of society in Ontario
  • reduce releases and impacts of toxic substances
  • enforce environment legislation/regulations and promote compliance policies
  • reduce long range air pollution
  • support region's Great Lakes Restoration targets
  • advance environmental technologies
  • strengthen staff capabilities

The Environmental Protection Branch is responsible for: leading a program to achieve the virtual elimination of persistent toxic substances from the Great Lakes ecosystem, implementing national program requirements in the region, securing compliance with applicable laws and regulations, promoting the development and demonstration of environmental technologies and products, promoting compliance at federal facilities, developing and facilitating a pollution prevention ethic with key sectors in the region.
