Spokesperson for :

Angus Fergusson
[View] (D)

Angus Fergusson is a graduate of McGill University with an MSc in Meteorology. He developed the 1997 ozone science assessment for the Montreal Protocol meetings (a landmark international agreement designed to protect the stratospheric ozone layer) held during the fall of 1997.

He also completed two smaller assessments on ozone depletion, UV radiation and their linkages with climate change. "Arctic Ozone : Sensitivity of ozone layer depletion to chemical substances and climate change" was published in 1999, while "Ozone Depletion and Climate Change: Understanding the Linkages" was published in 2001.

In 1998, Mr. Fergusson started the Children's UV Index Sun Awareness Program. This is an outreach partnership program between the Meteorological Service of Canada, Health Canada and the Association of Canadian Educators. In 2002, there are about 800 schools registered in the program with about 66,000 students under the age of 14 learning about UV radiation and sun safety. In 2003, the program will be expanded high schools with the introduction of the Solar UV in our World education book.

Mr. Fergusson has published numerous environmental papers. He has worked in Europe for the Canadian Forces where he was recognized with the NATO citation for weather forecasting. He has also received the Citation of Excellence for the Children's UV Index Sun Awareness Program.
