Dr. Francis Zwiers holds a degree in mathamatics from the University of Waterloo, a Masters from Acadia University, and a Ph.D. from Dalhousie University. Dr. Zwiers leads the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis, the MSC Division that develops and applies Canada's global climate system model. The CCCma model is used to produce projections of future climate change and to improve our understanding of the mechanisms of climate variability. Dr. Zwiers' specific areas of scientific specialization include the analysis of climate variability, climate change detection, climate extremes, and seasonal forecasting. He is an editor of the Journal of Climate, serves on a number of international committees and panels, and served as a Lead Author of the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Assessment Report.
