About the LibraryThe EC Library Downsview, established in 1871, is the second oldest federal library in Canada. It acts as a national collection for meteorology, climate research, air quality, severe weather, and environmental emergencies. It contains comprehensive book and journal collections in these areas as well as a large collection of reports on microfiche. A collection of observational weather data from around the world is a valuable resource of the library. The library also holds materials on Great Lakes water quality, pollution, hazardous contaminants and conservation of natural resources. A collection of videos, CD-ROM and films is also housed in the library. Our primary users are the scientists and researchers with the Meteorological Service of Canada, Environment Canada's Ontario Region and Environment Canada staff at all locations. Universities and other government departments are frequent users of the library as well. The general public is welcome to use our library as a reference collection. Photocopy services are available.
We are located in the Greater Toronto Area at 4905 Dufferin Street between Steeles and Finch Avenues. For interlibrary loans or other information please contact us at : downsview.library@ec.gc.ca
