Collection
The EC Library Downsview acts as a national collection for
meteorology, climate research, air quality, severe weather, and
environmental emergencies. It contains comprehensive book and journal
collections in these areas as well as a large collection of reports on
microfiche. A collection of observational weather data from around the
world is a valuable resource of the library. ArchivesThe Archives are a depository for Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) publications and reports. Two copies of all MSC publications are kept in the Archives. To preserve the integrity of the collection, these materials are not for loan. There are usually copies in the circulating collection. AES Training Branch ArchivesThis internal site contains training materials used by Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) to train its meteorological staff. WMO PublicationsThe Library contains the largest collection of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) materials in Canada. We also have a Union List of WMO Publications held at the Environment Canada Library, Downsview, the NOAA Central Library, the U.K. National Meteorological Library and the Keith B. Mather Library at the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Maps/AtlasesThe library's collection of maps and atlases includes those on weather, climatology, general reference, as well as topographic maps. There is a card file for maps and atlases on top of the card catalogue which gives very good access to maps and atlases received prior to 1980. Atlases are indexed in the card, microfiche, and online catalogues. Reprints / 700000 SeriesThis collection of pamphlets and ephemeral materials is housed in filing cabinets at the back of the library. They are kept in numerical order. The numbers designating a document are six-digit numbers beginning with a 7 (i.e. 703416). They are indexed only in the card or online catalogues. Learning CentreThe Learning Centre in EC Library Downsview was established in April 1995 to assist employees in making key decisions about their career and about work-related issues which impact on their home life. The Centre is designed to serve the needs of a lifelong learning society. The collection includes material on writing resumes and covering letters, material on understanding and coping with fast-paced changes in society, material on helping colleagues and subordinates deal with difficult work problems, and material on helping with presentations and communication of ideas. Audio-Visual MaterialsThe EC Library Downsview has films, videos and audiotapes on various topics such as management, weather and climate. For titles, search our catalogue. Videos and audiotapes have full records. The slide collection is not catalogued.
Management audio-visual materials are housed in the Learning Centre.
