Lightning Hot Spots in Canada

In Canada, lightning is most frequent in southern Ontario, southern Saskatchewan and the foothills of Alberta (red and yellow areas on map). In northern Canada and most of British Columbia, lightning is less common. (The map shows the "flash density" -- the number of flashes per square kilometre per year -- for cloud-to-ground lightning and cloud-to-cloud lightning combined, average data from 1998 to 2002.)
