Services Clients and Partners Directorate

MSC - EC - GC

Welcome

The Services Clients and Partners Directorate (SCPD) is one of the five line sectors of the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC). The other Directorates are: Atmospheric and Climate Science, Atmospheric Environment Prediction, Atmospheric Monitoring and Water Survey, and Policy and Corporate Affairs. Since MSC activities are governed by the Weather and Environmental Prediction (WEP) business line priorities, SCPD activities contribute to advance the WEP agenda.

MISSION AND MANDATE

The SCPD's mission is to ensure the provision of equitable and response-oriented weather, marine and ice services to Canadians for effective decision-making and societal and economic benefits. The SCPD's mandate is to strengthen meteorological and hydrological services to Canadians as well as interactions with clients and relationships with partners. Through the development and implementation of departmental policies, strategies and standards frameworks, the Directorate also ensures cohesive national meteorological (atmospheric and climatic) and hydrological services to Canadians and specialized clients groups.

Information on the SCPD Director General can be found here while information on all other MSC spokespeople can be found here.

SCPD is supported by 4 branches...

Aviation and Defence Services Branch (ADSB)

is the MSC lead for the NAV CANADA contract, delivers services to DND under a bilateral MOU and provides expert advice to Transport Canada. Almost 90% of the ADSB staff are assigned to day-to-day operations at Canadian military bases.

Ice and Marine Services Branch (IMSB)

provides information on past, present and future sea ice, lake ice and iceberg conditions in Canadian waters. This information is provided to the public, other government departments and other levels of government to enhance the safety of the marine transportation and to reduce risks to the environment. Additionally, this branch provides a national coordination of marine weather services for Canada and is a focal point for marine issues.

Natural Resource Sector Services Branch (NRSSB)

is responsible for service programs principally in support of other government programs like forestry, agriculture and energy. The focus of this Branch is Tier II Services to other government departments, provincial and municipal governments as appropriate.

Meteorological Services and Business Policy Branch (MSBPB)

is chiefly responsible for national coordination of services falling under the Weather and Environmental Prediction (WEP) Business Line. Areas of responsibility include program development, service standards and policies, service delivery and performance measurement.
