Habitat Conservation
British Columbia's unique geography provides habitats for many bird and wildlife species, including more than three hundred species of migratory birds. In this biologically diverse province, estuaries, agricultural land, dry interior grasslands, coastal and interior forests, riparian areas and wetlands, all provide important habitats for birds. These habitats and many of the bird and wildlife populations which depend on them are threatened by habitat loss.
To conserve habitats and their ability to sustain birds and wildlife, the Canadian Wildlife Service works with partners including provincial, First Nations, and municipal governments, environmental non-governmental and community organizations, industry groups (such as farmers) and individual members of the public in five main strategies:
