The H2O Project was conceived in 1998 by the specialists in Education relative to the environment of the Biosphère, in association with the City of Montréal, the Centre de développement des applications de la micro-informatique à des fins éducatives ( CDAME) and teachers of the metropolitan region of Montreal.

Addressing mainly the students of the third cycle of the primary school and aiming them to become aware of the importance of water, the H2O Project constituted an integral part of the ObserAction Network of the Biosphère from 1998 till 2003.

At present in reconstruction, the H2O Project will be part, when it will be put back on-line in April, 2006, of a new Web site connected with the RésEau portal. It will then incorporate the school project as well as a water consumption calculator intended for the general public.

The following paragraphs give a summary description of the H2O Project.

Project Description

The H2O Project is intended for students of the third cycle of the primary school (10-12 years old). By means of inquiries realized in their circle of acquaintances, this project brings the students  to become aware of the importance of water and invites them to take action by looking for solutions to protect it. It allows the students to learn about the techniques of inquiries and about the mathematics, while familiarizing them with information technologies and communications.

As a whole, the H2O Project can be considered as a learning tool which aims at returning the students capable of exercising a responsible citizenship and adopt more and more united and responsible behaviours, in a concern of sustainable development and global environmental protection.

Three theme of study who relate to the cycle of the water in urban zones are suggested: 1) the filtration of the water; 2) the use of the water; 3) the purification of the water. In their way, the teachers and their students can choose the one or some of these thematic to realize inquiries in their circle of acquaintances (family, friends).

When it is possible, a visit at a filtration or purification station of domestic waters complete in beautiful way the H2O Project. Also, a visit at the Biosphère allows the students to participate in various educational activities and to get acquainted with various facets of this invaluable liquid that is water.
