Acid Deposition and Oxidants

decorative image

The Air Quality Research Branch studies the oxidising capacity of the atmosphere. This is a key element in determining the production of acidifying material in the atmosphere that leads to the occurrence of ‘acid rain'. Understanding factors such as atmospheric transformation processes, oxidant levels and atmospheric acidity are essential to predicting and understanding the impacts of this environmental issue.
