FOREIGN REPRESENTATIVES TO ATTEND TRUDEAU FUNERAL

The Government of Canada today announced that a number of foreign dignitaries will attend the state funeral in Montreal of the late Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau, on Tuesday, October 3.

Among those who have confirmed their attendance at the funeral are: Fidel Castro, President of Cuba; Jimmy Carter, former President of the United States; His Highness Karim Aga Khan, Spiritual Leader of the Ismaili Muslim Community; Samuel Hinds, Prime Minister of Guyana; Raymond Barre, former Prime Minister of France; John Compton, former Prime Minister of St. Lucia; Seymour Mullings, Deputy Prime Minister of Jamaica; Najib Zerouali, Minister of Scientific Research of Morocco; Geoffrey Hoon, Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom; Louis Tull, former Foreign Minister of Barbados; Hans Matthoeffer, former Minister of Finance of Germany; Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of Caricom; Assad Kotaite, President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization; and Don Johnston, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
