YUGOSLAVIAN FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER TO VISIT CANADA
Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham today announced that the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia, Goran Svilanovic, will visit Ottawa from April 30 to May 1, 2002.
"Canada has strongly supported the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia's transition to democracy," said Minister Graham. "We
welcome the opportunity to discuss the situation in the Balkans as we prepare for the G8 Foreign Ministers' Meeting,
which will take place on June 12 and 13 in Whistler, British Columbia."
Minister Svilanovic will be the highest ranking Yugoslav official to visit Canada since the dramatic changes of October
2000. Discussions between the two ministers will focus on the political and economic reforms in the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia, the situation in southeastern Europe, bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.
In Ottawa, Mr. Svilanovic will also meet Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken,
President of the Privy Council and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Stéphane Dion, Minister for International
Cooperation Susan Whelan, and Secretary of State (Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East) Gar Knutson.
