FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER OF BHUTAN TO VISIT CANADA
Minister of Foreign Affairs Bill Graham today announced that the Foreign Affairs Minister of Bhutan, Lyonpo Jigmiy
Thinley, will visit Canada from May 1 to 4, 2002.
"We warmly welcome the first official visit to Canada by a Bhutanese minister," said Mr. Graham. "We encourage the
Kingdom's efforts to further enhance ties with other countries and feel privileged to be among the nations with which
Bhutan wishes to expand its relations."
In Ottawa, Minister Thinley will meet Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Minister
Graham, Finance Minister Paul Martin and Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour. In Toronto, he will meet with
Canadian business representatives.
The two foreign affairs ministers will explore ways of further enhancing relations and discuss trade, human rights,
development-related topics and other bilateral and international issues of mutual interest.
