STATEMENT BY G8 FOREIGN MINISTERS IN CONNECTION WITH TERRORIST HOSTAGE TAKING IN MOSCOW

We, the G8 Foreign Ministers, most resolutely condemn the hostage taking in Moscow, a terrorist act that can have no justification. We express our solidarity with the citizens of Russia and those of other countries held by the terrorists. We express support for, and sympathy with, their relatives. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages.

Terrorism openly challenges all of humanity. The Moscow hostage taking is another in a series of recent terrorist acts throughout the world. We will not allow such events to go unchecked. We are united in combatting terrorism.

As it was decided at the G8 Kananaskis Summit, we will step up our cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and will accelerate implementation of the initiatives upon which we have agreed. We stand ready to cooperate with other nations in strengthening their anti-terrorist capabilities.

We are determined to fight terrorism decisively and unconditionally in all its forms and manifestations.
