December 12, 2002 (2:15 p.m. EST) No. 172

APPOINTMENT TO ROOSEVELT CAMPOBELLO

INTERNATIONAL PARK COMMISSION

Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham today announced the appointment of Edward McLean to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission.

Mr. McLean is the President & C.E.O. of Connors Bros. Ltd., one of Canada's largest seafood companies, which he joined in 1967. He was also President of the Seafood Producers Association of Nova Scotia in 1985, Chairman of the Fisheries Council of Canada in 1987, and President of the Seafood Processors Association of New Brunswick in 1999.

The Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission was established in 1964 by an agreement between Canada and the United States. The park, on Campobello Island, N.B., is the location of the summer home once used by former U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and symbolizes the close relations between Canada and the United States. Its operating costs are shared equally. More than 130,000 people visit the park annually, touring the historic Roosevelt residence and making use of its interpretive exhibits and nature trails.
