PETTIGREW INVITES CANADIAN COMPANIES TO APPLY FOR THE
2001 CANADA EXPORT AWARDS
International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew has kicked off the 2001 Canada Export Awards,
which showcase the exporting success of Canadian firms.
"These prestigious awards recognize the excellence and talent of Canada's exporting firms,"
said Mr. Pettigrew. "These companies strengthen the economies of their communities and
generate jobs and prosperity for our country. They are a strong symbol of our success abroad
and of the health of our economy."
The nomination period for the 2001 Export Awards has now begun. The awards are open to
Canadian firms in all sectors of the economy that have been exporting for at least three years.
Companies that excel in foreign markets, that have demonstrated an ability to hold their own
against international competition, and that exhibit an innovative spirit are invited to apply.
The finalists will be announced in June. The names of the winners will be unveiled at the
Canada Export Awards ceremony, which will be held in Montreal on September 24, 2001, in
conjunction with the annual convention of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.
The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2001. For further information or to obtain a
