MANLEY WELCOMES GOVERNMENT-NGO PEACEBUILDING CONSULTATIONS
John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today welcomed participants to the Fifth Annual Government-NGO
Peacebuilding Consultations taking place on May 3 and 4 in Ottawa.
"These Peacebuilding Consultations provide an ideal opportunity to exchange views with Canadian civil society
on the critical elements of human security and peacebuilding, themes that I consider inseparable from
Canada's role in global affairs," said Minister Manley. "The depth and scope of the organizations participating
clearly demonstrate government and civil society's shared commitment to a coherent, co-ordinated
peacebuilding program."
The Consultations, hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade at the Lester B.
Pearson Building, 125 Sussex Drive, will provide an opportunity for a joint review of government and non-governmental organizations' peacebuilding initiatives, with a view to increasing co-ordination and coherence in
peacebuilding approaches.
Minister Manley will speak at the closing plenary session on May 4 at 3:45 p.m., at the Cadieux Auditorium in
the Pearson Building.
