Quebec Resident Fined $1250 for Migratory Bird Hunting Violations


L’ORIGNAL, ONTARIO, May 20, 2004 — Today, in the Ontario Court of Justice, in L’Orignal, Ontario, a Quebec man was fined a total of $1250 and had his hunting privileges revoked for one year. Mr. Andre Hachem, 36, of Gatineau, Quebec plead guilty to charges under the Migratory Birds Hunting Regulations for unlawfully hunting migratory game birds without a permit and for being in possession of migratory birds without a permit. Mr. Hachem also pleaded guilty to unlawfully and knowingly making a false or misleading statement orally to a wildlife officer contrary to the Migratory Birds Convention Act.

Mr. Hachem was arrested on October 19th, 2003 for numerous violations under the Migratory Birds Regulations made pursuant to the Migratory Birds Convention Act. The charges were laid by wildlife enforcement officers of Environment Canada’s Canadian Wildlife Service, Ontario Region. The charges were a result of an enhanced enforcement effort in Eastern Ontario by the Canadian Wildlife Service and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Kemptville District.
