Border Information Service
The Border Information Service (BIS) is a computerized, 24-hour telephone service that provides general border services information on topics in four main categories:
- Personal travel information,
- Business importation/exportation,
- Currency exchange rate information, and
- Residency information.
If you call during office hours (08:00 - 16:00) local time, you can also speak directly to an agent for more specific information.

- We ask you not to e-mail any personal information such as departmentally assigned case or file numbers, home or business address, passport numbers or other information;
- The CBSA does not reply by e-mail to specific questions about customs or immigration-related situations concerning personal or business cases;
- We cannot accept and process changes of address by e-mail;
- We are unable to forward e-mail messages on your behalf;
- We do not accept e-mails that have attachments. These are deleted by our filters.
