Application deadline: December 16, 2005. The competition is open to young violinists from all over the world who intend to pursue a professional career in music and who, on January 1, 2006, are 29 years or younger. Strong presence of Canadian visual artists in Austria In November & December the Kuenstlerhaus Buechsenhausen in Innsbruck shows a group exhibition with works by former Artists-in-Residence, including the Canadian artist Benny Nemerovsky Ramsay. Starting from November 26, interactive audio and video installations of the duo Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller can be seen at Kunsthaus Bregenz, the sound installation The Forty Part Motet is presented at the Johanniter Church in Feldkirch at the same time (until January 15, 2006). In early 2006, the Vienna-based Galerie Grita Insam plans two solo exhibitions with Canadian artists, Tania Kitchell and Nestor Krueger, both from Toronto, in its new gallery rooms located at 1010 Vienna, An der Hülben 3 / Seilerstätte. Maple Movies touring Austria For the second time now a series of Canadian films has been put together for the German speaking countries, at the initiative of Kinemathek Hamburg and Telefilm Canada. During the summer of 2005 (July/August/September), many of these films will be shown at the Filmcasino in Vienna, the Filmzentrum im Rechbauerkino in Graz, the Moviemento in Linz and the Cinematograph in Innsbruck. The 13 selected films, partly in English and partly in French with German subtitles, reflect Canada’s culture - from Montreal to Vancouver, from the modern metropolis to the distant outpost of civilization - in its diversity, from a contemporary perspective. The PRT brings together representatives from the Canadian Forces (CF), Foreign Affairs Canada (FAC), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in an integrated Canadian effort. Canada’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr. Chris Alexander, highlighted that the Kandahar PRT opens a new stage in Canada’s enhanced commitment to Afghanistan. “Our priority is to extend security and development to a key province where serious challenges remain”, said Mr. Alexander. “In support of the Governor and the entire Afghan government, we will seek ways to make Kandaharis safe at home and at work.
