At a meeting with the media on January 26, Prime Minister elect Stephen Harper announced that his new Conservative government will take office on February 6. Canadians elect a Conservative minority government

In the January 23 federal elections for the Canadian House of Commons, 308 MPs were elected as follows: 124 members of the Conservative Party, 103 members of the Liberal Pary, 51 members of the Bloc Québecois, 29 members of the New Democratic Party and one independent member. Stephen Harper, the leader of the Conservative party, will become the next Prime Minister of Canada. Paul Martin, the leader of the Liberal Party and current Prime Minister has announced he is leaving the leadership of the Liberal Party. For the final results see the Elections Canada site. .. more
