This report is an up-date of the Inventory of Releases of PCDDs/PCDFs report published in January 1999 which can be obtained in PDF format from the contact below. It contains summary and detailed information currently available for individual anthropogenic sources.
The nature of the revisions is indicated on the summary table as well as on sector specific tables. As new information becomes available, the inventory report will be up-dated. In addition to jurisdictions, all facilities generating PCDDs/PCDFs are encouraged to review this draft report and to submit relevant comments and corrections where appropriate, especially as it relates to missing information on concentration where test has been carried out. PCDDs/PCDFs have been added to the National Pollutants Release Inventory (NPRI) for the year 2000.
A number of sectors have been identified as priority sectors for which Canada-Wide Standards are being developed. These are identified in the report (please refer to Fig. 4). Other sectors may be identified for action in the future.
HCB has been identified as a Track 1 substance according to the Toxic Substances Management Policy (TSMP) adopted by the federal government and to the Policy for the Management of Toxics Substances (PMTS) adopted by CCME. HCB has been added to the National Pollutants Release
Inventory (NPRI). Environment Canada encourages all facilities carrying out tests/analysis for PCDDs/PCDFs to analyze/ report on HCB and co-planer PCBs (please refer to Annex-2) Please refer to Annex-2 for the use of the Toxic Equivalent Factors (ITEQ.)
