Attorney General Announces Newmarket Judicial Appointment



TORONTO — Attorney General Michael Bryant today announced the appointment of Peter Bourque as a provincial judge to the Ontario Court of Justice, effective February 15, 2006.

"Mr. Justice Bourque has accumulated a broad range of experience throughout his legal career," said Bryant. "This expertise will serve him well in his new position on the bench."

Called to the Bar in 1978, Mr. Justice Bourque has been in private practice for over 26 years in Orangeville, primarily in the areas of criminal and family law. He has argued cases before all levels of court and before administrative tribunals, and has worked as a part-time assistant Crown attorney. Mr. Justice Bourque has been a member of the area committee of Legal Aid Ontario in Orangeville and served on the duty counsel panel.

He was also a member of a Regional Courts Management Advisory Committee, a member and vice-chair of the County and District Law Presidents' Association, president of the Dufferin County Bar Association and a bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Mr. Justice Bourque to preside in Newmarket.

Bryant has appointed 44 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in on October 23, 2003.
