Search and Rescue Stamp unveiled

On Monday June 13th, at the Canadian Forces Base in Esquimalt, in Victoria, Canada Post released a new set of four domestic rate (50¢) stamps honouring Canada's role in air, marine, and ground search and rescue operations.

Alain Guilbert, Vice President, Communications, Canada Post presented the framed images of the stamp to the chief of staff, Maritime Forces, Pacific Captain Nigel Greenwood, and Jean Murray, Executive Director of the National Search and Rescue Secretariat.

Following the official unveiling, there was a demonstration involving the rescue of a casualty by SAR Techs. Guests were invited to view the Canadian Coast Guard Hovercraft and Canadian forces, talk with the SAR Techs, and tour the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. Guests were then taken by shuttle to lunch at the Wardroom Naval Mess.

The guests represented all areas of search and rescue including volunteers, air, marine and ground search and rescue as well as local Canada Post employees and philatelic enthusiasts.
