In order to effectively deliver the vehicle emission inspection clinics, Environment Canada requires the assistance of local hosts in each city we visit during our summer tour. The types of organizations that act as hosts vary greatly but all generally share similar goals to those of the VEIC program, which are to educate the public on transportation related environmental and human health issues. Our list of past hosts includes:

• all levels of government: from specific city council committees to EC regional offices
• a variety of different private sector interests: ie emission equipment manufacturers, shopping malls
• educational institutions: ie high schools, automotive technology programs
• non-government organisations: from local, grass roots environmental groups to affiliates of large international organizations

Our program consists of at least 2 trained EC staff travelling across the country in a cargo van during the summer months since all of our testing is done outside. This year we have decided to start in the West in early May and make our way East with our season wrapping up in early October. We stop in approximately 30 cities along the way and do 2 or 3 days of testing in each city. We carry most of the essential equipment with us and the acquisition of the rest of the supplies we need is left up to the host. The financial costs associated with hosting a clinic are usually quite small and EC covers most if not all of these costs. Check out the Terms of Reference that acts as a guideline for the spending and reimbursement of funds associated with hosting a clinic.
