OPEN TO: Candidates who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, who are legal residents of the Washington Metropolitan area, who have or are eligible for work authorization in the USA, and whose applications are received by the closing date. SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Reference Librarian, using on-line computer systems, orders publications, renews subscriptions, purchases selected acquisitions for the Embassy library, officers of the Embassy and departments in Ottawa and Canadian posts worldwide; drafts all correspondence relating to publications; purchases, checks in and routes serials and claims missing issues; maintains records of all expenses; prepares financial statements, and other budget reports as required using word processors, spreadsheets and on-line acquisitions module; processes incoming mail; provides reference assistance using reference sources, CD-ROM and on-line search services and performs other duties in support of the delivery of effective library service. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT (must be met): Eligibility for a government of Canada Reliability Status LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: English
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Candidates must demonstrate clearly how they meet the Education and Experience requirements listed below: EDUCATION: secondary school graduation, or certification in the field of information management or library technician. EXPERIENCE: 1. Experience in doing internet research; 2. Experience in creating and managing spreadsheets; 3. Experience in drafting correspondence; and 4. Experience in using Microsoft Office or Corel Suite programs. 5. Experience in preparing and administering budgets RATED REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE: 1. Knowledge of on-line research tools; 2. Knowledge of Canadian reference material; 3. Knowledge of the Canadian government information and/or publication departments; 4. Knowledge of budget procedures; and 5. Knowledge of website management. ABILITIES: 1. Ability to prepare and maintain databases; 2. Ability to plan and organize; 3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and 4. Ability to respond to enquiries from colleagues and clients PERSONAL SUITABILITY: 1. Team player 2. Initiative; 3. Flexibility; 4. Judgement; and 5. Effective interpersonal skills DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: 1. Graduation from a community college with a diploma in Library Technology. 2. Ability to work in French.
