OPEN TO: Candidates who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, who are legal residents of the Washington Metropolitan area, who have or are eligible for work authorization in the USA, and whose applications are received by the closing date.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the general supervision of the Counsellor, Cultural Affairs, the incumbent implements components of the Embassy’s Cultural Affairs program aimed at developing and maintaining an awareness of Canada, and of Canadian culture and values. The duties include researching and compiling information on Canadian artists and cultural events for the cultural calendar Canadian Arts, drafting the texts for the cultural calendar; managing the Cultural Affairs grant program process, including preparation of grant agreements, corresponding with grant applicants and recipients, and grant reporting for the quarterly reports; managing Embassy events related to the cultural program; maintaining the Cultural Affairs contacts database; coordinating the trips to Canada of the Canadian/Washington Theatre Partnership program recipients, including corresponding with recipients and theatre contacts in Canada; coordinating and conducting group visits to the Embassy; conducting guided visits for officials; assisting the Cultural Affairs Officer with the music and literature programs; completing special projects; assisting in the coordination and presentation of exhibitions in the Art Gallery; and other related duties as may be required.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of college degree or some university training in the humanities;
  • Experience in writing a variety of documents.
  • Experience with data management;
  • Experience of office work and in dealing with the public; and
  • Eligibility for Reliability Status (RS) security clearance

RATED REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Canadian arts and culture and be aware of where and how to get information quickly on different cultural sectors such as, but not limited to, performing arts, visual arts, film, music, literature;
  • Basic knowledge of data management;
  • Basic knowledge of the internet;
  • General office procedures, including word processing and email;
  • The Embassy’s organization, functions, architectural features and scheduled cultural events.

  • University degree;

SELECTION PROCEDURE
