ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, November 2, 2005 - Irwin Cotler, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

Frank N. Marrocco, Q.C., of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice E.G. Ewaschuk who has elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Marrocco received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1970 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1972.

At the time of his appointment, he was a partner with the firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson where he practised primarily in the areas of administrative law and corporate immigration law.

Mr. Justice Marrocco is the former Treasurer of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the Advocates Society and of the Criminal Lawyers Association. He has acted as Chair of the Lawyers Professional Indemnity Insurance Company and has served on a number of Law Society of Upper Canada Committees.

J. Patrick Moore of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice R.W.M. Pitt who has elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Moore received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1972 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1974.

Prior to his appointment to the Bench, he was a partner with the firm Rogers Moore, practising primarily in the areas of civil litigation and products liability.

Mr. Justice Moore is a former Director and member of the Advocates Society and member of the Toronto Lawyers’ Association. He is a frequent speaker for the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association and has been an instructor at the Ontario Center for Advocacy Training.

Douglas C. Shaw of Thunder Bay is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice J. Wright who has elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Shaw received a Masters of Arts in 1970 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1973, both from the University of Toronto. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1975.

Prior to his appointment, he was a partner with the firm Atwood Shaw Labine where he practised primarily in the areas of family law, civil litigation, employment law and administrative law.

Mr. Justice Shaw has served as Director of the Advocates Society and member of its Family Law Liaison Committee. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the Thunder Bay Law Association.

These appointments are effective immediately.
