ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA , November 23, 2005 - Irwin Cotler, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

Gerald E. Taylor of Waterloo is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice J.A. Jenkins who has elected supernumerary status.

Mr. Justice Taylor received a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1975 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1977.

At the time of his appointment, he was a partner with the firm Taylor, Oldfield, Greaves, D’Agostino and Billo where he practised primarily in the areas of litigation and criminal, civil and matrimonial law. He has been certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil and criminal litigation.

Mr. Justice Taylor is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Advocates Society. He is a member of the Legal Aid Area Committee for the Waterloo Region, a member of the Criminal Lawyers Association, the Osgoode Society and the Waterloo Law Association.

Anne C. Trousdale of Kingston is appointed a judge of the Family Branch of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. She replaces Madam Justice M.F. Dunbar who has resigned.

Madam Justice Trousdale received a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University in 1976 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1978.

At the time of her appointment, she was a partner with the firm Trousdale and Trousdale, where she practised primarily in family law, child advocacy, wills and estates. She has been a panel member at the Office of the Children’s Lawyer since 1980.

In the past, she has acted as Independent Chair Person at the Prison for Women in Kingston. She is also past president of the Frontenac Law Association and is a member of the Ontario Family Law Rules Committee. She is a former member of the Council of the Canadian Bar Association.

Allan R. Rowsell of Oshawa is appointed a judge of the Family Branch of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice J.C.M. James who resigned.

Mr. Justice Rowsell received a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1979 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1981.

Prior to his appointment, he was a partner with the firm Walker Head where he practised primarily in the areas of family law, mediation and arbitration.

Mr. Justice Rowsell is a founding Director of the Collaborative Family Law Association of Durham and member of the Ontario Family Law Rules Committee. He has been a frequent lecturer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, the Ontario Bar Association and numerous continuing education programs.

These appointments are effective immediately.
