Deputy Minister John H. Sims has been awarded the John Tait Award of
Excellence by the Canadian Bar Association’s Public Sector Lawyers’
Conference.
The award was established in 1998 to honour, recognize and celebrate
the accomplishments of public sector lawyers in Canada.
In presenting the award, Katherine Crosbie, Chair of the Public Sector
Lawyers’ Conference, described Sims as a “humble and dedicated
public servant who is extraordinarily wise, caring, sensitive and approachable.
“He is an individual who, throughout his career, has determined
that there is no greater honor than working on behalf of the citizens
of this country through the provision of excellent legal advice.”
Sims, who became Deputy Minister last December, joined the Department
of Justice in 1977.
Vice-chair Mark Berlin described Sims as a “true leader for this
new millenium.”
“He is quick to take responsibility and equally quick to heap
praise on his colleagues for the work they do. He generously gives of
his time to assist and mentor juniors.”
The award, named after former Deputy Minister John Tait, was presented
to Sims at the CBA Legal Conference in Vancouver in August.
