An interview with Senator Serge Joyal, Co-Chair of the Special Joint Committee on the Constitution, 1980-81

In the fall of 1980, Senator Serge Joyal, a colourful, young Québec Liberal MP was named co-chair of the Special Joint Committee on the Constitution with Senator Harry Hays, a 71-year-old Alberta rancher and former mayor of Calgary. They chaired a committee of MPs and senators from all parties and led one of the most striking examples of the power of participatory democracy in modern Canadian.

An interview with J. Patrick Boyer, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Equality Rights, 1985

Early in 1985, J. Patrick Boyer, a Progressive Conservative MP from Toronto, was named Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Equality Rights. The all-party committee sat for most of the year, during which time the three-year moratorium on the implementation of Section 15 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms ended and the new equality rights came into force.
