Air Rail Marine Road

The Land Transportation Standards Subcommittee (LTSS) was created by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to address the development of more compatible standards related to truck, bus and rail operations and the transport of hazardous materials among the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The LTSS has been meeting annually at plenary since 1994.

Three LTSS working groups are still engaged in trilateral harmonization efforts [LTSS 1 - Driver and Vehicle Compliance, LTSS 2 - Vehicle Weights and Dimensions, LTSS 5 - Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials]. There are also four related Transportation Consultative Groups (TCG) addressing issues not specifically assigned to the LTSS. For example, TCG 1 addresses issues relating to cross-border operations and facilitation.

This website has been developed in order to better share information related to departmental participation in the NAFTA Land Transportation Standards Subcommittee. On it, you will find the annual reports of the NAFTA LTSS plenaries, information on the 2001 NAFTA Land Transport Conference, as well as related websites of relevance.
