Transport Canada > Civil Aviation > General Aviation > Recreational Aviation and Special Flight Operations

Recreational Aviation and Special Flight Operations is responsible for authorizing and monitoring sport aviation activities, special aviation events and commercial flight operations involving balloons, non-piloted aircraft and other emerging forms of aviation. We are also responsible for amending and developing policies, standards and regulations.

We are here for aviation safety. We are committed to working in partnership with our stakeholders to develop regulations and standards that promote safety, encourage growth and adapt to the changing environment of a unique and dynamic segment of the aviation community. That unique segment of the community consists of those recreational aviation enthusiasts who fly for the love of flying, as well as those who are involved in special and unique flight operations, often involving new aerospace technologies.

Serving general aviation, we are the focal point for a wide variety of individuals, schools, clubs, companies and organizations who participate in activities involving balloons, airships, hang-gliders, gliders, gyroplanes, amateur builts, small aeroplanes, ultra-lights, advanced ultra-lights and powered parachutes. We also provide service to those wishing to participate in special aviation events such as balloon festivals, airshows, aerobatic competitions or parachute demonstrations, or those who are involved in unique flight operations, such as non-piloted aircraft operations.

OUR VISION

"In partnership with our Stakeholders, develop regulations and standards that promote safety, encourage growth and adapt to the changing environment of a unique and dynamic segment of the aviation community".
