Message to Passengers Travelling to the United States

Lighters are prohibited on your person and in all baggage beyond the security checkpoint.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has added LIGHTERS to its Prohibited Items list.

The ban was effective April 14, 2005.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) will intercept lighters from all passengers using U.S. pre-clearance services at these airports:
  • Montreal
  • Ottawa
  • Toronto
  • Winnipeg
  • Calgary
  • Edmonton
  • Vancouver

Lighters are not allowed in:

  • Carry-on baggage
  • Checked baggage
  • Onboard an airplane

NOTE:

  • Passengers may carry strike-on-cover matches. This item may become a prohibited item.
  • This restriction on lighters applies ONLY to passengers using the U.S. pre-clearance services.
