REPAIRS TO NATASHQUAN
AIRPORT’S MOVEMENT AREA
NATASHQUAN, QUEBEC - Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre announced today the
award of a contract to repair Natashquan Airport’s movement area.
"Safety is Transport Canada’s top priority", said Mr. Lapierre. "These
repairs will help maintain safe and effective service at Natashquan Airport."
The $3,393,152 contract awarded to Pavex Ltd. includes repaving of the
runway, the taxiways and the apron in bituminous concrete, along with
restoration of the public parking lot. The work will begin in August 2005 and
take some two months to complete.
"This project will help Natashquan Airport maintain a safe movement area for
many years to come and thus promote the community’s economic, recreational and
tourism potentials," Mr. Lapierre noted.
Natashquan Airport is considered a local/regional airport under the National
Airport Policy. It serves as a major hub for the transportation of passengers
and freight to and from Quebec’s North Shore.
Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget
and is therefore built into the existing financial framework.
