Registrar Imported Vehicles ( RIV ) is Canada's national program of vehicle inspection, certification and registration. RIV provides information on how to import a U.S. purchased vehicle into Canada.

The Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) is a Canadian national program of vehicle inspection, certification and registration that administers imports of vehicles from the United States.  Transport Canada has contracted with Livingston International to establish and operate RIV through its subsidiary, Adminserv Canada. All imports of vehicles into Canada from the United States must meet Canadian safety, environmental and labeling standards.  Before importing a motor vehicle purchased in the U.S. into Canada, individuals need to follow several important steps.  This website explains how to import a motor vehicle into Canada and bring your vehicle into compliance with federal standards.

You will be able to access:

    - the list of vehicles (published by Transport Canada) manufactured in the United States and that are approved for entry into Canada

    - checklists by vehicle type, which enumerate vehicle modification and inspection requirements

    - information about the required vehicle inspections, including a list of Canadian Tire inspection centres and their locations

    - recall clearance letter requirements so that you can pass the federal inspection

    - provincial or territorial jurisdiction information so you can obtain your license plate

    - and more.
